The Perfect Introduction
If you have never picked up a paddle, our classic half-day trip is the perfect place to start. Launching from our base in Hay-on-Wye, we send you on a beautifully scenic, five-mile journey down the river to Whitney-on-Wye.
Taking roughly two-and-a-half hours to paddle, this stretch perfectly balances serenity with gentle excitement. You won’t navigate daunting white water, but a few playful little rapids provide a splash of fun! It keeps the journey engaging and is brilliantly suited for families and beginners. Take the river entirely at your own pace, soaking in the spectacular scenery as you float downstream. At the finish point in Whitney, a lovely restaurant right by the water awaits if you want a well-earned drink or a bite to eat before we transport you back to Hay.
We use traditional, incredibly stable Canadian canoes. However, if you have younger children, are a nervous paddler, or simply want an extra layer of absolute confidence, we offer a fantastic “catamaran” option. Rafting two canoes together side-by-side creates a highly relaxed, social setup that offers ultimate peace of mind, allowing up to six people to paddle together in complete comfort.
